TE 870 Developing Web-Based Portfolios - Web Portfolio
Reflective Statement:
This web portfolio or ePortfolio as it is sometimes referred to as, was created for the course TE 870 Developing Web-Based Portfolios. This item features the use of HTML, CSS, the integration of other open source services technologies such as Blogger.com and the presentation of my more note worthy accomplishments while attaining my Masters of Science in Education, Instructional Technology with a Multimedia Development concentration.
Process Statement:
I chose to create a web portfolio instead of a final thesis in that I wanted to research web portfolios as a whole. Besides completing the TE 870 Developing Web-Based Portfolios class, I have since read books and Internet articles and attended conferences dealing with web portfolios in an effort to further understand this newly emerging educational tool. In creating my web portfolio I made it from the ground up so as to improve my HTML and CSS skills as well as identifying ways to present the overall presentation and end user experience.
Assessment Statement:
I believe that this web portfolio is a success in that it properly presents items showcasing my educational achievements. Yet the success of a web portfolio can only be accomplished by continually updating and improving upon it. I have modified this web portfolio several times so as to keep the style and presentation “fresh” and aesthetically pleasing with regards to design and style. I have also been continually updating it with new content as I complete each course. Additionally I have integrated the use of Blogger.com so as to have a more dynamic commenting system instead of using a static emailing technique. Future improvements would include creating the entire web portfolio with a dynamic system so as to facilitate faster creation and editing.
This project has also been very helpful in giving me the ability to understand many of the issues associated with ePortfolios. As the organization I work at (Kansas State University), looks into an ePortfolio system I am at a much better position to offer suggestions and guidance in presenting the best system to our students, staff and faculty.
